A Baytown mother is urging other parents to watch their children after her little girl stuck herself with a used needle at a ballpark.
Stacy Hilliard's six-year-old daughter was at the east Little League park, playing in the sand behind bleachers when she pricked herself with a needle she found. She ran crying to her family for help.
She's been tested and so far, blood tests have come back negative. But the family still fears the worst.
"We have no idea who used the needle. It looks like a well-used needle and if it comes from a drug abuser, then we're looking at possibly having HIV virus, or hepatitis, or different sexually transmitted diseases," said the girl's mother, Stacy Hilliard.
Hilliard said her daughter will have more blood tests over the next year. A health expert said contracting a disease from an old needle like this is rare. Park workers said they are working to keep parks clean.
